Alex Kern is a writer, comedian, and copywriter based in Los Angeles, CA. Alex's work has been featured by The Los Angeles Times, VANITY FAIR, New York Magazine, Splitsider (Vulture), The New York Observer, HelloGiggles, Backstage, Decider, The Comedy Bureau, Comedy Cake, Nerve, Brokelyn, Numero 8, FRIDAY, and more. Her work has screened at The Cleveland International Film Festival, Palm Springs International Comedy Festival, Maryland Film Festival, Hollyweb Fest, NYC Web Fest, the Funny Women Festival, and the Los Angeles Animation Festival. She performs stand up, storytelling, and characters across Los Angeles. She can most recently be seen in the feature film, “The Hater” (Red Crowne) and the upcoming indie comedy, “My Divorce Party.”
Alex’s award-winning solo show, “Thank You So Much for Coming,” written and performed by Alex, premiered at The Hollywood Fringe Festival (2023) to sold out audiences. She won the “Best of Broadwater” Award and “Best Immersive Show” (TVO Awards). Alex will be taking her show on tour this summer, making stops in Denver and Cleveland before performing at The Edinburgh International Fringe Festival at the renowned Underbelly theater.
Alex is the sole writer, creator, and star of the critically acclaimed web series, SingleDumb, co-creator of the animated series, Pawla Dean’s White House Kitchen (Awards: “Best Episode in a Series,” The Los Angeles Animation Festival, “Best Animated Web Series,” Palm Springs International Comedy Festival). Alex has worked as a comedy writer and producer at AwesomenessTV on their daily live comedy variety show, TOP FIVE LIVE. She has also worked with WhoHAHA, College Humor, and Above Average. She has been in many a web video and in commercials, which mostly air between re-runs of Sex and the City.
Alex has studied at The Groundlings, The Upright Citizen’s Brigade (NYC), The Second City (Chicago), The People’s Improv Theater (NYC), and The Magnet (NYC). She is a graduate of the New Actors Workshop (NYC) where she studied with one of her filmmaking idols, Mike Nichols. She is a graduate of Georgetown University where she played Division 1 field hockey before ditching it for the stage. She hails from Cleveland, Ohio. She speaks French, hates gum, and dreams of one day owning a minivan. Her comedy idols are Elaine May, Lucille Ball, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and Mary Tyler Moore. Oh, and of course, Jim Carrey and Robin Williams.
